From today new requirements to Incorporate come into effect with the CRO (Companies Registration Office) in Ireland. Many CRO processes like forming a company or filing an annual return will require the inclusion of a Directors PPS number or VIN number. Company Registration in Ireland will now require the confirmation of a PPS number for every director. This is a safety mechanism. It will confirm that the personal is real and natural. If a person is looking to register a company in Ireland for the first time and they do not have a PPS number they must apply for a VIN.
How is the PPS number verified?
The Companies Registrations Office verify the information through electronic transfer of information with the Department of Social Protection.
Do I need a PPS number as a Foreign Director?
You will require a PPS number in the future if you are a Director of a company and are a shareholder with more than 15% of the shareholding in the company.
I want to incorporate and I do not have an Irish PPS number.
If you do not have a PPS number and wish to create a company in Ireland then you will need to acquire a Verified Identity Number. We will provide you with a pre filled form. You must return it signed by yourself and a notary along with a copy of your ID.
I previously incorporated and have an RBO number.
If you previously incorporated and filed a Ben 2 during this process, with either us or another agency, you will have an RBO number. This number can be used to verify you on the CRO system.

Do I need to get a new number for each incorporation and annual return?
You will be provided with one number and this will suffice for all future CRO correspondence.
Who will need to provide a PPS/VIN?
All Directors of the Company will require a number. The company secretary does not need one.
