CRO figures for 2012 are now published. The Companies Registration Office is the central repository of public statutory information on Irish companies and business names. There have been some interesting results in this report which was published in the last few days. One of the most interesting figures from the report is that 14,009 new companies were incorporated in 2012, this is an average of 1160 per month and down from the previous year.
The number of new companies being incorporated (14,009) is down from 14,615 in 2011. This is a difference of -4.2% from the previous year. The breakdown of new company types is as follows:

The number of single member companies on the register was 49,374, and the number of companies dissolved was 14,049 which is close to the number of new companies incorporated.
New Business Names:
The CRO receives a large number of business name registrations each year. The chart below shows the number registered annually since 2007.The number of business name registrations is also down from the previous year, just like company incorporations. In 2011 the number of business names registered was 26600, and in 2012 it was 25766. The total number of business names on the register in 2011 was 407,151 and in 2012 it was 430,365.
